What?! You said “You are one sexy momma!” to a prospect?

Sometimes when I hear “just be you” I am not sure how that translates in “real” life.  Through-out my life I have heard various “be authentic” messages yet only in the last two years am I beginning to take ownership of this concept. You see, starting at 6 years old I went to my first personal/spiritual development retreat (I still have a heart pin given to me at graduation).  I have always felt an inner agreement about “being myself” yet I have been cautious to act on this idea and even more reluctant to trust in it.

Are you like me? I experience fear and decide to play it safe. Later, I go over conversations in my mind rehearsing my “authentic  me” performance. Come on, we all do this! It is normal.

Well, normal but not all that nurturing for our growth (in all areas of our lives). What I am discovering in taking ownership of my “just be you” lifestyle is that life is really fun, fulfilling and even simple.  Notice I did not say easy.  The fear and self-doubt still show up, now I use them as the green light to take action from my heart and do it my way.

The other day I was on call with a potential client, who was a referral from a long standing client, and after she finished sharing about her and her business my first reply out of my mouth was “Okay, thanks. First I have to say, you are one hot sexy momma for being 67, I am so inspired by your commitment to taking care of yourself!” (During our call she told me she is 67 years old and therefore slow to take on technology.)

Then right way I thought ooooh, maybe I was too excited and should have kept that to myself. I mean really, she is a gorgeous woman and I couldn’t just pass over this amazing truth and start talking about business.  Right?

So, can you guess what her response was? She very confidently said “Yes, I am a sexy momma!” We enjoyed a giggle together and then started talking about her business and marketing needs.

Simply by sharing the “real me” with a new prospect I created a feeling of connection between who I am and who she is.  More importantly I honestly acknowledged something unique and special about her that most consultants or first time business associates would never say!

What I know for my clients is the more they share their unique and special skills, passions, thoughts and perspectives the more interactions they receive on their social media sites, blogs and newsletters.

You can start doing this too! Look at your last newsletter, blog or status update on facebook and ask yourself “What would I have written to a good friend or close relative?” This usually opens your heart and quiets the inner critic. Listen to the answer and take action right away.  Draft some status updates to share this week on facebook or be open-hearted in your next blog posting. When you market yourself from your heart, it opens your audience eyes to see your greatest offerings (and they will want more!).

Unplug to Recharge

Oh! The View!

Recently my family and I took a 3 day camping trip with the goal of relaxing and enjoying family time.  As we were packing for Seward, Alaska I debated on if I should leave or take my work.  Working from home is a blessing because I can do my work anywhere there is an internet connection.  When we go on trips I always bring my laptop with me but this time there was a voice inside my head whispering "unplug yourself, leave your work, unplug yourself". So at the last minute I unpacked my computer and made the choice to unplug for 3 days!  This included my cell phone after we arrived at the camp site.

While driving the 127 mile trip I wondered if it was okay to leave my work for 3 days. What if a client had a social media emergency! How would I fix it without my computer? What if I missed out on an announcement for a new technology? Would people on facebook miss my posts and comments? Then I heard the whisper again "unplug...unplug".  Trusting my intuition I took some deep breaths and shifted my focus on the scenery.

Eventually the urge to check my email, browse my facebook newsfeed and share my experience via status updates faded into the background of mountains, ocean and smore's.  I became present and realized how wonderful it was to turn off the chatter and enjoy the real time chat with my family.

When I returned to my work I was jazzed up and energized for my clients.  Unplugging to recharge is so obvious yet can present as a challenge to efficiency and professionalism.  How do you unplug...or do you even unplug?  Share your ideas now by leaving a comment below.

Add Twitter Followers by Conducting a Survey on Twitter

When it comes to Twitter and the process to add twitter followers, have you thought about using surveys on Twitter to do so? While the idea may seem a bit far fetched, it really is a good way to add followers to your Twitter profile. Why is that, you may ask? Everyone likes taking a survey! What you would need to do is to create a survey that people will take. This survey can range in ideas from the concrete to the abstract. Creating a survey is not that hard to do.

To add twitter followers to your list, you will need to create a survey using tools such as TwtPoll and other such tools that are provided by Twitter. Here is how to create a survey. You need to define goals of the survey, pick the tools you will use, write the questions, test it and then put it up on Twitter. This survey can be from 5 questions to as many as you want. Deciding the questions and content can be the hardest part for creating a survey on Twitter. Once you have decided on the content, then you can move on.

Once you have got the survey complete, then it is time to put the survey up on Twitter. All you have to do is tweet the survey URL on your profile page and wait for people to take it. Word of mouth will allow you to add twitter followers to your profile as they take the survey and leave comments. You can do more than one survey if you wish to do so. Once your own followers have taken the survey, and if they liked it, then they will spread the word through their followers and more will come and take the survey.

The content of the survey is up to you, but the advice is to make the content interesting like current events or something that many people would be interested in. This is the best way to create a survey that will add twitter followers to your listings. The categories are endless so be creative and fresh without going overboard when creating the content for the survey. If the survey is for business, then you will need to know what content to put into the survey for a business purpose and create it.

To be able to add twitter followers, your content has to be unique and fresh. It also has to be relevant to both you and what people want. By making the material engaging, thought provoking and creative, you will be certain to be able to add people to your profile page. It really isn't that hard to do and the rewards of doing a survey on Twitter will allow you to both get lots of replies as well as adding more people to your Twitter account. So why not create a survey on Twitter today? Odds are that you will create a lot of talk and provoke some thought with the survey that you create on Twitter.

Are You Using Twitter Lists?

Twitter lists are essentially the long awaited Twitter "groups." This is a way to group your followers into categories and a way to find new followers. You now have the ability to group people any way you choose and name the list anything you choose. You can even include someone you're not following in a list.

For example, we have a list of our virtual assistants on the Activ8Business Twitter account. You can do the same, create a list of your employees, your affiliates, your competition, anything and anyone. Lists are your opportunity to create customized groupings on Twitter.

Creating A Twitter List
To start creating your Twitter lists is simple. When you're logged in look belong the search box and click New List. You will have to chose a name for your list and then you have two choices: Public or Private List.

Public List: These will be viewable by everyone. This is a great way to recommend followers.

Private List: These will only be viewable by you, not even those in the list will know they are there. This is a great way to keep an "eye" on your competition.

You will now be prompted to add users to your list. You can also add users when you are doing everyday Twitter browsing. Just click the drop down box and you will be able to add them to lists right from their profile. You can even add yourself to lists this way.

Removing Yourself from an Un-wanted List
If you have been listed somewhere you don't want to be you can block that person. Now keep in mind if you do this that person will not be able to follow you. This action can be undone. Visit your profile and click on your Listed link. From here you will click on the List you want to block. Once at the list along the right column you will see Block.

Finding Lists to Follow
Check out listorious.com where they offer a categorized directory of Twitter lists. Also the popular TweetMeMe has a list directory of the current "top" lists lists.tweetmeme.com

As you can see Twitter has added this feature to enhance your Twitter optimization. These new lists can be integrated into many Twitter management systems as well, like Seesmic and Hootsuite. Start making your lists, have fun and Tweet about your lists so people can follow them.
